Private island lodge

Sleep with the tide.

Eight rooms on a leeward shore. A kitchen that works from the morning skiff. Water, in every direction.

The lodge

Close enough to hear the water change its mind.

Mira Cay sits on the quiet side of a private island, twenty minutes by skiff from the nearest airstrip. We built it for people who want the water close and the days unscheduled.

There is a saltwater pool, a stretch of pale sand, and a table that serves one dinner seating. Cotton sheets. Outdoor showers. No televisions. The Wi-Fi works, if you need it.

Most guests come for a week. A few never quite get around to leaving the dock.

Stay

Eight rooms, all facing the cut.

Three of them are here. The rest we will describe when you write — they share the same sheets, the same outdoor showers, the same sound of small water.

Bedroom opening onto a terrace with still water beyond

Reef Suite

A ground-floor room that opens to the sand. Outdoor shower, a daybed in the shade, and the reef a short walk down the beach.

From $420

A still resort pool at dusk with palms around the edge

Palm House

The largest room, set a little back in the palms. A soaking tub, a writing desk, and space enough for a long stay.

From $540

Four-poster bed in a room looking out through palms to the sea

Cove Room

Highest on the ridge. Sunrise over the cut, a private deck, and a straight line of sight to the incoming weather.

From $480

A quiet dining room set with wine glasses and candlelight

The table

Dinner at seven. The menu is written in the afternoon.

We cook simply once the skiff is back: grilled fish, citrus, island greens, bread from the oven. Wine is on the honor system. Breakfast is whenever you appear.

Outside when the weather holds. Inside when it does not. Either way, one seating — so the kitchen can pay attention.

Breakfast 7.00 – 10.30
Dinner 7.00, one seating
Kitchen Closed Tuesdays

On the water

The cay is small. The surrounding water is not.

A pale sandbar in turquoise water under a clear sky

01

The sandbars

A morning run in the skiff, an hour on a bar that disappears at the flood, and a swim home if you like.

A sea turtle swimming over a coral reef

02

The cut

Snorkel the reef where the tide moves. Turtles, on most days. We provide masks that do not leak.

03

A still day

Stay. The pool, a book, the hammock under the almond tree. This is also a correct use of the island.

Visit

Write to us with dates. We hold eight rooms, and we answer quickly.

Fly to the nearest airstrip. We will meet you at the dock. The crossing is twenty minutes, less if the cut is kind. Season runs November through July. August and September we close for weather.

Bring a linen shirt, reef-safe lotion, and something to read. We have the rest.
